Things to Do in the Arisaig Area
Hill Walking
An area with such dramatic landscapes provides a great playground for many levels of hill walking. There is also Ben Nevis (48 miles away), in Fort William and is the UK's highest point at 1344m. A programme of local walks around Arisaig operate each year during the summer (April - Sept). Kayaking
Rockhopper do kayak trips and Wilderness Scotland also run a 6 day kayak adventure in the area. This website will provide you with tide tables.
Climbing
There are many places to climb in the area. Climbers can also practice in two indoor centres, the Leisure Centre (in Fort William) and also The Ice Factor, which is Europe's premier ice climbing centre.
Cycling
You can hire a bike from 'Cycles2u' which allow you to hire or deposit your cycle between Mallaig and Corpach from any of the Railway Stations, Hotels or Bunkhouses listed on their website. Phone 01687 461021 or 01687 450291 for details.
Mountain Biking
The Mountain Biking World Cup has taken place in Fort William over the past two years, and this has provided courses of world class standard. You can find out more on the website at http://www.fortwilliamworldchamps.co.uk/
Skiing and Snowboarding
Nevis Range is the local place in Lochaber to do snow sports, and also provides a year round gondola service on Aonach Mor. Skiing and Snowboarding are largely dependant on the weather, you can out more information by visiting the Nevis Range website.
Jacobite Steam Train
Described as "one of the great railway journeys of the world", the Jacobite runs a daily return service between Mallaig and Fort William June to October, for more information, visit the Steamtrain website. The train has featured in Charlotte Gray and the Harry Potter movies, more information about this on the film locations page.
Fishing
Both freshwater and sea water fishing can be done in the area. Permits can be arranged for Loch Morar by phoning 01687 462388.
Boat Hire
Boats can be hired on Loch Morar by phoning 01687 462520, and charters can also be arranged from Arisaig Marine, Bruce Watt and the Grimsay Isle.
Scuba Diving
The waters between Knoydart and Ardnamurchan provide many great places to scuba, you can find out more information from 'Sport Extreme' in an article by Peter Collins.
Camping
There are various camp sites near Arisaig including Invercaimbe, Camusdarach and Gorten Sands.
